# source control beside the claude code chat

I added a Source Control mod to Traversy Claude Mods. It puts a VS Code style Git pane beside the Claude Code chat, with changed files at the top and a commit graph underneath.

You can stage and unstage files, discard changes with confirmation, and commit what’s staged. Expand a commit to see its files. On Linux, clicking a file opens it in VS Code. The desktop pane uses the installed vscode-icons theme for file icons, with colored letter codes as a fallback.

A few details took more work than the basic Git commands. Discard confirmation had to live inside the pane so it could work while Claude was still running. Opening VS Code from the desktop app also needed a different launch path for the Linux snap build. I tested that in the real app and confirmed files opened.

The pane refreshes after Claude edits files, after Git commands, and at the end of each turn. There is also a refresh button for changes made elsewhere. It doesn’t poll continuously, and it doesn’t push, pull, or fetch.

One limitation matters: Claude Code runs Git from mods with repository hooks disabled. If your commit depends on a pre-commit or commit-message hook, use the terminal or VS Code to commit.

This joins Session HUD, Tool Cards, and Next Steps in the same marketplace. The tool page has screenshots and installation commands. All four mods are in the Traversy Claude Mods repo.
