# moving mission control production out of the checkout

links: repo | project page

Update, October 8, 2026: I’m splitting Mission Control’s responsibilities into Trav Focus and Trav Fleet. Trav Focus is privately deployed for daily work. Trav Fleet is next, and Mission Control remains available until Fleet is accepted. The original runtime migration below is completed work, not the current roadmap.

Mission Control’s vault API was running from a production directory inside the Git checkout. I moved its release files into a separate runtime location so the live service no longer depends on that checkout-local directory.

This wasn’t a move to another machine or a rewrite of the API. The vault stayed where it was, and the service kept the same connection details and behavior. I copied the existing releases, compared the trees, and switched the service to the separate release path. Previous releases remain available for rollback.

The verification needed to go further than a green health endpoint. Mission Control’s web container can answer its health check even when the upstream API is unavailable. I checked the production snapshot instead and confirmed fresh data with the vault connection reporting available and writable. An unauthenticated request to the source API still returned 401.

I also documented the complete route from the browser through the main API to the vault source API. They’re separate processes, even though they use the same server code. If the source machine is unavailable, the dashboard can retain a dated snapshot, but writes stay disabled.

The migration is complete and the cleanup is merged. Todo maintenance is the next product feature. The planned Agent Activity view comes later; neither is part of this runtime change.
