# devstash gets a sharing-first redesign

DevStash could already share collections and individual snippets, but the app still felt built around storing things. I reworked the signed-in experience around capturing something quickly and sharing it when you’re ready.

Home now starts with a paste box and one filtered list. Paste detection suggests the item type, but you can change the guess before saving. Dense rows are the default, with a switch back to code cards. Sharing controls sit together at the top of the item drawer, and a dedicated Shared page shows what you’ve made available to others.

The lists also have pagination now, starting at 25 items with options for 50 or 100. That includes Favorites and Shared, not just the main item pages.

Alongside the app redesign, I shipped downloadable snippet images and rewrote the public homepage around “Stash it. Share it.” Rendering long snippets exposed a performance problem: clipping a tall image panel made render time grow dramatically. Removing that clipping brought a 160-line render from over two minutes to about half a second in the local checks.

DevStash is also free for now. Pro is hidden, AI helpers are available to everyone, and the old free-tier limits have been replaced with higher abuse ceilings. New file and image items are disabled; existing attachments remain readable and downloadable.

The changes are deployed. It remains the project from my Coding with AI course, with the original course version preserved under the course-final tag. The live app is continuing to develop beyond that version.
